About Me
Sinead Stafford, BA (Hons), Counselling & Psychotherapy, NUI Cert, Higher Cert in Social Studies.
I first began my studies in counselling and psychotherapy with Maynooth University and continued my professional training by pursuing a degree in counselling and psychotherapy. I have successfully completed a 4 year honour’s degree in counselling and psychotherapy with Dublin Business School, a course which is accredited by the I.A.C.P. (Irish Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy).
I have been working with clients for a number of years covering many different issues- bereavement, depression, loss, suicide intervention, sexual abuse, alcohol addiction, drug addiction, anger, domestic violence, eating disorders, stress, relationship issues, anxiety, phobias and many other areas that are part of everyday life for many people.
• I work with adults on a one-to-one basis. My therapeutic approach is humanistic & integrative. This therapeutic approach places emphasis on the relationship between client and counsellor which facilitates change to take place.
• My background and training is primarily in humanistic counselling however my training provided me an eclectic background with other schools of counselling and psychotherapy such as psychoanalysis, CBT, Gestalt & Psychodynamic often naturally flowing into my work with clients.
• I am also interested in holistic interventions i.e. Progressive Muscular Relaxation, Breathing Techniques, visualisation. These techniques can help with thought stopping, worry control and refuting irrational thoughts.
• I am in continual professional development through attendance of workshops on different topics which also aids me in my work with clients.
• I have completed ASIST training (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) and continue my professional development on an ongoing basis.
• I attend Supervision on an ongoing basis. This ensures my therapeutic work and professional standards are maintained.
• Preceding my work in counselling I worked in the Fundraising sector for two well known Irish charities.
• I am a pre-accredited member of the Irish Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and work in accordance with their Code of Ethics and Practice http://www.irish-counselling.ie/index.php/iacp-code-ethiractcs-pice
